Statement

As a composer, my recent compositional language is inspired by cognitive attributes of sound as a metaphor for musical syntax, and has been influenced by composers with a strong interest in spirituality and mysticism. I believe that the role of a composer is the one of a mediator who serves to interpret both the abstract or intellectual, and divine or supernatural attributes of music. I would describe my compositions as nearly ethereal abstractions of the imaginary and spiritual voyage of self-discovery: by the constant evolution of new sonic collocations, a piece of music becomes a vibrant entity, a living sensation.

Being a performer on both piano and organ, I approach these instruments as vehicles that provide a musical connection between the listener and a higher realm of our inner world. The purpose of music performance today is to bring us closer to the ultimate transcendental experience documented by composers.

As a sacred musician, I aim to depict the ethereal message of liturgy through sound, and use the organ as a catalyst to that transcendental sacred experience. With its wide spectrum of instrumental colors, I find the organ well capable of leading and sustaining the faithful in song and praise and providing an organist with great possibilities for improvisation. In the same spirit, my love for sacred music stems from Gregorian chant, polyphony and hymnody together with the sacred spirituality of choral and congregational singing.

I would say that my musical personality could be easily compared to César Franck or Olivier Messiaen whose lives and works have been a great inspiration in my life as musician and a human being.
