Old Town Organ Vespers

postcard_front_web
St. Michael in Old Town Church is home to one the few remaining Kilgen pipe organs. The Kilgen Company was one the most famous organ manufacturers in the late 1800′s, and was especially known for the quality of its church pipe organs. In order to sustain raising awareness in the community of this rare type of pipe organ and as the parish undertakes the needed repair and restoration of the pipe organ to its full musical potential, the Old Town Organ Vespers recital series offers some fine organ music on the improved instrument.

Please come to a recital of organ music at St. Michael in Old Town Church in Chicago, this Saturday, May 22 at 7 p.m. The recital will feature an inspiring organ music based on the Feast of the Ascension and Pentecost. Admission is free, and all the proceeds will support the ongoing restoration of the church’s historic Kilgen pipe organ. A short tour of the instrument and the presentation of the organ project by a Berghaus Pipe Organs representative will follow the event. All are welcome to attend.

As you might be able to hear this Saturday, the organ is already playing much better! Although less then half of the organ is currently playing, the following program will help to illustrate some very colorful stops and tonal possibilities that slowly, but surely are coming to life.
