Carillon (2009)
The title of this work for carillon comes from the Russian zvony chimes, traditionally known as sets of bells rung by pulling ropes. While they originated in the ninth century, they are mainly recognized by repetitious rhythmic patterns, not different to some ritualistic chants of the Russian Orthodox Church. The overall formal design of the work explores the procedure of a spiral canon, a process that in this work controls both the rhythmic and tonal elements of musical structure.
